Play description
David Hare’s first major success. Originally produced in 1970 by the Hampstead Theatre Club, it was revived at the Royal Court and won the Evening Standard award for most promising new playwright. The play is a funny and hard-hitting portrayal of an attempt by the staff of a girls’ boarding school to put the more extreme Women’s Lib theories into practice by establishing a community without men.

Loophole member Stephen Butcher and director Laurence Moody were contemporaries of David Hare at Cambridge University which was instrumental in their being able to acquire the rights for this fringe production.
