This was a very lively show and innovative, with a two-story revolving stage.
I was one of the stagehands on the show in 1982 for about 6 months and it was during the Falklands War. Most of the crew in the Green Room were glued to the TV for news about the Falklands during scene changes, including some of the actors! Paul Eddington was a bit “stuck up” though and wouldn’t waste any time talking to us!
I got the job by joining the NATTKE Union down in Kennington and seeing the job on their notice board. No other way to get a backstage job in the West End at that time. For me, first full time job in the theatre, the pay was a modest £35 per week (!) for 6 evening performances and two matinées. Was hard to live on that :-/
