Second Helping

A Farcical Comedy by Ivor Novello.

Preceded by SONG PARADE – ‘a pot-pourri of famous song hits’ by Novello, sung by Olive Gilbert, Muriel Barron, Peter Graves, Kenneth Carten and Maidie Andrews, with Novello at the piano.

The Monday night performance at Manchester was cancelled owing to rail delays preventing Dorothy Dickson and Isabel Jeans from arriving in time. (‘Journey Actress Will Never Forget’, Manchester Evening News 30th January 1940, page 1.)

For its West End opening on 10th April 1940, this play was retitled LADIES INTO ACTION. The new title had first been used at Leeds; the following week, at Southsea, Lilli Palmer took over from Dorothy Dickson (see separate entry).
