Our Lady

Advertised as “a blasphemous thriller”. Three women who claim to be the Virgin Mary are interrogated by a fourth woman.

Two performances at Coventry’s Sidney Stringer School, scheduled for 6th and 7th August 1986, were cancelled by Coventry Festival organisers, owing to fears the play would offend Roman Catholics. (‘Festival Censors Slap Ban on Play’, Coventry Evening Telegraph 7th August 1986, page 1.) An attempt to ban the play’s Taunton performances followed two months later. (‘Cancel this play of blasphemy’, Western Daily Press 1st October 1986, page 16.)

Reviewed in The Scotsman on 20th August 1986 (page 6).
