Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street
‘TASTY PIES! During an interval in the performance of SWEENEY TODD at the Connaught Theatre this week, ladies of the company are going round the audience selling what are described as “Mrs Lovatt’s pies” – which figure prominently in the plot – in aid of Worthing Hospital. Considering that, according to the play, many of these pies were made from the bodies of Sweeney Todd’s victims, they appeared to be going remarkably well on Monday night!’ – Worthing Gazette, 4th December 1935 (page 6)
