Glory!

The script for thos musical theatre production won the LWT Plays on stage Award in 1988 which came with a £20,000 grant towards the production. This immediately led also to a call from Annie Castledine, artistic director of Derby Playhouse, to co-produce the production which Temba quickly accepted. This piece was also the jewel in the Crown in a large sponsorship deal the compoany did with Cockspur Rum and an offer from Melvyn Bragg to make a Southbank Show about Temba, including times in rehearsal as the production unfolded in development and rehearsal and of other productions happening at the time.
The press was mostly very positive and included this view from Sylvester Onwordi in What’s on; ‘Glory is a beatifully-staged production full of colour and a genuine Vitality. The songs written by Felix Cross are very memorabkle indeed, The musical influences range from sonorous Catholic chant to foot-tapping cCalypso. There are stirring and humourous pperformances by the whole cast but particularly from Adjhoa Andoh who created in the lead role a believbly sympathetic character free from any hint of pathos.’ 2 May 1990
