London’s Grand Guignol

Sequel to José G Levy’s 1920–22 Grand Guignol seasons at the Little Theatre (qv).

This portmanteau comprised PRIVATE ROOM NO 6 by André de Lorde and Pierre Chaine (adapted by José G Levy), DEAD MAN’S POOL by Victor Bridges and T C Bridges, PETER WESTON by Frank Dazey and Leighton Osmun, and E. AND O.E. by Eliot Crawshay-Williams. Of these four pieces, PETER WESTON made such a big impression that, by 1st July, the show was being advertised as PETER WESTON AND THREE GRAND GUIGNOL PLAYS

Plans to revive THE OLD WOMEN and THE HAND OF DEATH, from Levy’s previous seasons, were reportedly vetoed by the Lord Chamberlain. (‘London Calling: The Censor’s Qualms’, London Daily News 9th July 1924, page 6.)
