Continuous Grand Guignol
Three portmanteaux of Grand Guignol plays, performed continuously from 2.00pm to midnight every day at popular prices (1s to 5s). Involved throughout, as actor, was Russell Thorndike, and, as director, Henry Oscar (who directed all but two of the pieces in programme 1 and the entirety of programmes 1 and 2).
Programme 1 (16th June to 20th July) comprised CONGRATULATIONS by Robert Palmer, THE OLD WOMEN by André de Lorde, SOMETHING MORE IMPORTANT by H F Maltby, EIGHT O’CLOCK by Reginald Berkeley, E. AND O.E. by Eliot Crawshay-Williams, and an eight-scene revue by Heath Joyce and Rob Roberts called FRILLS
Programme 2 (21st July to 5th September) included SHEPHERD’S PIE by Léon Frapé and Georges Fabri (adapted by Sewell Collins), THE MEDIUM by Pierre Mills and Celia de Vilyars (adapted by José G Levy), HUSBANDS ARE SO JEALOUS by F Harris Deans, A COUPLE OF COUPLES by Lauri Wylie, THE VIGIL by André de Lorde, and THE SEEKER OF SENSATIONS by Charles Méré (adapted by José G Levy).
The third programme (6th September to 1st October) comprised HANGMAN’S FARM by James Parish, FLOWERS FOR TWO by Henry Oscar, SELF DEFENCE by Edward P Montgomery, PRIVATE ROOM No 6 by André de Lorde, DEAD MAN’S POOL by Victor Bridges and T C Bridges, and GASPERS by Sewell Collins.
