Grand Guignol
This portmanteau of Grand Guignol plays included ANDRONICUS (a digest version of TITUS ANDRONICUS), the monologue DALGARNI (written and performed by Griffith Jones), COALS OF FIRE by Frederick Witney, THE MASK by H M Harwood and F Tennyson Jesse, and BEFORE BREAKFAST by Eugene O’Neill. At the Embassy, the last of these was replaced by H F Maltby’s SOMETHING MORE IMPORTANT.
“The performance was several times interrupted by what are classically known as ‘dull thuds’ as one body or another slumped to the ground. In fact, there were more dull thuds in the stalls than on the stage.” – ‘LG’, ‘Things that Go Bump at the Embassy’, Hampstead News 20th December 1951 (page 4)
