Grand Guignol (season 1)

Portmanteau of Grand Guignol pieces, comprising E. AND O.E. by Eliot Crawshay-Williams, COALS OF FIRE, NUIT DE NOCES and THE BITTER END, all by Frederick Witney, and PROGRESS by St John Ervine. From 7th June a fourth Witney play was added, CORAL STRAND.

“It was wise not to let grimness be too prominent in this season, which should have a big success, for the plays are well produced and beautifully acted by a West End company. There are touches of humour in plenty. Not for one moment was I bored.” – Philip Page, ‘The New London Stage Productions’, The Sphere 19th May 1945 (page 30)
