Carmilla: A Romantic Legend of the Undead

Adaptation of Sheridan Le Fanu’s 1871 vampire story by the Earl of Longford (Edward Arthur Henry Pakenham, 1902–61). First presented at the Gate on 3rd May 1932, with Coralie Carmichael in the title role and directed by Hilton Edwards.

This 1937 revival was the first in a sequence of Irish plays at London’s Westminster Theatre. It was followed by Denis Johnston’s THE MOON IN THE YELLOW RIVER (20th September), Mary Manning’s YOUTH’S THE SEASON…? (5th October), Christine Longford’s ANYTHING BUT THE TRUTH (18th October) and Lord Longford’s YAHOO (2nd November).
