Samson Agonistes
John Milton’s play was never originally intended for performance. Rarely staged, the poet’s only play treads dangerous thematic territory. Samson – blinded, bound and tormented by his captors – contemplates making the ultimate sacrifice for his nation, while Delilah, dressed in the gold which bought her betrayal, defends her treachery in the name of posterity. In examining the divide between citizen and revolutionary, public and personal duty, they offer themselves up to God’s judgement – and yours. For more information see our website.
