‘On Halloween night in 1993, River Phoenix died from a drug overdose outside the Viper Room on Hollywood’s Sunset Strip. Ever since he’s been living in my basement.’ River reads through the many different works chronicling his life after his ‘death’, reflecting on their content and their manipulation of his public image and self-image. Selling out entirely during its initial run in 2009, this two-character piece, set in a basement, is an intense, character driven drama that explores the power of biography and celebrity.
