Handbag

Anthony Horowitz’s 2009 play for the National Theatre. A group of seriously dysfunctional young adults are putting on a famous play by Oscar Wilde. Is their being thrown together to produce this play (which apparently has absolutely no connection with them whatsoever) seen as punishment or therapy? How should society treat young offenders who have committed horrible crimes? Significantly topical, this dark comedy explores an institutionalised world and questions whether there is a group in society that is actually beyond redemption.
