The Bacchae

In a new version by Mike Poulton; conceived and created by Mark Bruce and Braham Murray.

“The new God Dionysus returns to the City of Thebes his birthplace. Pentheus, the iron-willed leader of the city, refuses to recognise his divinity. Dionysus decides to show Pentheus and the whole city what it means to deny his power. He starts with the women, transforming them into The Bacchae.

”A dynamic series of scenes shot through with poetry, song, dance and ritual, THE BACCHAE is one of the most startling pieces of theatre ever written."
