Maria Marten, or The Murder in the Red Barn
This production became a fashionable success, attracting numerous celebrities and West End audiences. It reached its 100th performance on 28th November – which was believed to be (apart from pantomimes) “a record run for any production on the south side of the Thames.” (‘Chit Chat’, The Stage 17th November 1927, page 18.)
The producers, Barnard & Slaughter, were alternatively credited as ‘AH & S Barnard in conjunction with N Carter Slaughter’.
A facsimile of this production, also under the Barnard & Slaughter banner, was staged in November and December at the West Hartlepool Empire, Gateshead Empire, Ramsgate Palace, Chelsea Palace, Ilford Hippodrome and New Cross Empire.
