48th Street Theatre

In August 1955 the water tank supplying the theatre’s sprinkler system crashed through the roof when the corroded steel beams supporting it finally gave way. Thankfully this occurred at 9.00am and no one was seriously injured in the accident. It was intended the theatre be restored and extended but when it was found there was too little room to expand it was demolished and replaced by a parking garage.
