Irene Mawer

Co-founded the Ginner-Mawer School of Dance and Drama, circa 1912, with Ruby Ginner. They met at Elsie Fogerty’s Central School.
Irene Mawer proved to be a born mime and developed the Irene Mawer Method of Mime and Movement, and founded the Institute of Mime in 1933.
Miss Mawer’s method of mime is believed to have been taught at Central School, RADA, LRAM and Rose Bruford College, etc, – where it was just known as ‘mime’ rather than the Irene Mawer Method.
After Ruby Ginner retired and the Ginner-Mawer School closed, Irene Mawer became the Senior Tutor and Lecturer at the Birmingham School of Speech Training and Dramatic Art (BSSTDA) which was run by her friend, Pamela Chapman.
