About Matt Devereaux
Matt Devereaux was born in London in 1961. Whilst still at school he sang and performed in several productions at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden. After leaving school he studied fine art at Chelsea and then Central Schools of Art. On leaving full-time education he worked both as a freelance scenic-painter and jazz musician. In the early nineties he created the musical comedy character Bob Van Krap. The stage show featuring this character played for two successful seasons at the Kings Head Theatre, Islington. Its performance at the Hackney Empire won first place at the Hackney Empire talent quest (1993).
Soon after Matt became a full time actor, playing the part of Max in the BBC series Crocodile Shoes and the Big Bopper in Buddy in London’s West End. Shortly after this period he played the role of Sir Epicure Mammon in Face; Bob Carlton’s updated version of Ben Jonson’s The Alchemist. There then followed several engagements in theatre both as performer and author. The following years saw Matt appearing in numerous productions for various companies both in London and throughout the country, as well as a spell in the BBC radio drama department.
Keeping his hand in the comedy pie, his compilation stand up show of various odd characters earned him a place as finalist in the Hackney Empire new act of the year (2006). In more recent years Matt has been a regular performer at the Nuffield Theatre in Southampton, and has been engaged in acclaimed work for the Bristol Old Vic/Hampstead Theatre and the Penny Dreadful Theatre Company. Also in the last ten years Matt has provided the voices for over 100 animated cartoons.
