The Unknown
A 5 act drama by JA Stevens under the direction of Mr Edward F Conway. Commenced a fit up tour of Scotland on Boxing Day 26th Dec 1889 at West Calder Town Hall until Sat 4 Jan 1890. Then given at Shotts 6 – 11 Jan 1890; Muirkirk 13 – 18 Jan 1890 and Maybole 20 – 25 Jan 1890.
The ‘ Unknown ‘ is a young fellow whose mind is for the time being unhinged but whose memory is suddenly awakened and his mental faculties restored to their normal condition. Some gloomy passages of the play are relieved by the humours of Pat and Louise, a couple who have apparently found matrimony a decided failure judging by their frequent bickerings and mutual recriminations. The play was later produced at Sadler’s Wells 2 – 7 Nov 1891 & the Novelty, Holborn in 18 performances from 9 to 29 April 1892
First performed at the Surrey 31 July 1882.
