Marvellous Boy
A musical costume drama, ‘Marvellous Boy’ tells the story, by turns raunchy, humorous and tragic, of the Bristol boy poet, Thomas Chatterton, who lived from 1752 to 1770 – yes, he died at the age of just 17. Chatterton’s greatest works were so-called forgeries, written on ancient parchments he claimed to have found in an ancient coffer from St. Mary Redcliffe church in Bristol. The production had a cast of 20 with Jack Riddiford, 17, in the title role and Megan Thompson, 15, as his elusive lover Polly Rumsey. A backing track is available on CD and there is also a professionally made DVD of the show, available from the authors.
