Whuppitie Stourie
“WHUPPITIE STOURIE is a Scots folk version of the European tale RUMPELSTILTSKIN. The play is set in South West Scotland around 1730 and the language is mostly Scots. The Guidwyfe o’ Kittilrumpit loses her man when he flees from the dreaded Military Press Gang. She is left with an unmarried daughter to support and survival depends on her sow, Bessie, soon hopefully to produce economically useful piglets. WHUPPITIE STOURIE is a tale of magic and fantasy, full of exciting action and high comedy as well as having something to say about Scotland today.” – publicity, 1989
