Observations
-
Cast included John Neville and Michael Craig & Harold Innocent.
Jimmy Thompson (better known as the human foil for the singing puppets Pinky & Perky) was a very good dauphin.
I think the junior cast members included John Shrapnell.
Judi Dench was spellbinding. -
Our English teachers at Bilborough were starstruck by John Neville being director at the playhouse and organised trips to various Richard # x Shakespeare productions which left me totally unmoved and doubting that The Bard had any relevance to us in the 1960s. But then we saw St Joan there and I was transfixed by the lead performance of the unknown ( in the day of Marilyn Munro, Brigitte Bardot and Hattie Jacques), Judi Dench.
-
This was my first visit to a theatre to see a play. We were studying St Joan for O – Level at Horncastle and there was a trip to Nottingham.
I was entirely captivated by Judi in a performance I will never forget.
