Observations
-
I had hear that Richardson was struggling with the role and wanted to see what it was like to what a successful actor in crisis. It was odd. He strode about the place with a degree of irritation, which is almost right for the role but not enough to illustrate the character’s deep inner conflict. Wendy Hiller was very grand and Peggy Ashcroft was charming if not exactly what Ibsen had in mind.
The whole enterprise was rather inert…. very later Peter Hall
