Last five observations
- To Mermaid Theatre Company production of Treasure Island, by Robert Louis Stevenson, Mermaid Theatre, London, 16th December 1974 - 11th January 1975: “1961 saw spike milligan performing for the first time in live theatre. Iknow this because I played jim hawkins. We had a preview for Doctor Bernados Homes kids who were somewhat noisy ( unaccostomed to the live theatre constraints of behavior) after we took our bows and made our way off, Spike vigorously asked no-one in particular “ So. This is the bloody legitimate theatre” . He was very funny as Ben Gunn and was a very funny ad libber.”
- To production of Candida, by George Bernard Shaw, Birmingham Repertory Theatre, 20th April - 15th May 1965: “Sheila Hancock WAS to have played Candida but didn’t and was replaced by Olive McFarland. Derek Smith played Burgess and Sean Scully played Marchbanks. The arts council reps who have to approve all prods destined to tour Europe as this was, did not like Mr Scullys performance and he was replaced by John Stride. David Dodimead alternated with another actor ( not listed above) in the playing of Morell.”
