Grand Guignol (season 5)
A fifth series of Grand Guignol pieces at the Granville Theatre, all of them written by Frederick Witney – THE LAST KISS, SAY IT WITH FLOWERS, THE CELIBATE, WEEK-END COTTAGE and ZENOBIA. The third of these had originally been banned by the Lord Chamberlain, but was permitted after a dress rehearsal had been seen on 23rd October by Colonel N W Gwatkin, representing the Lord Chamberlain, and a group of clergymen. (See ‘Clergy Judge Banned Play on Sex Problems of Curate’, Daily Mirror 24th October 1945, page 5 / ‘Chit Chat: Grand Guignol’, The Stage 25th October 1945, page 4.)
