Grand Guignol (season 2)
A second season of Grand Guignol at the Granville, comprising NARK THE KNOCKER by Herbert de Hamel, CORAL STRAND by Frederick Witney (with a different ending to the version seen in the previous season), THE MEDIUM, also by Witney (adapted from L’ANGOISSE by Pierre Mills and Celia de Vilyars), THE KILL by Celia de Vilyars, and PRIVATE ROOM No. 6 by AndrĂ© de Lorde.
In CORAL STRAND, “the audience had to be content with a hanging off-stage, by orders of the Lord Chamberlain, who had stepped in on the morning of the production. Yet at the Granville a few weeks ago we saw a woman hold another woman’s face in a blazing fire. Which seems inconsistent.” – Philip Page, ‘The Paint and the Powder’, Truth 6th July 1945 (page 8)
