The Hour and the Woman
Advertised as ‘The Sex Thriller That Is Different’.
This play was previewed in May 1955 (qv) with the authorship attributed pseudonymously to Eugene Hamilton. This version acquired a seventh character (Pat Malone) and was attributed to Gustav Salou – again, a pseudonym. A piece in The Stage (26th January 1956, page 8) credited the play to actor Dominic Roche, a claim corrected in the following week’s issue (2nd February, page 6): “David Kirk is the author of THE HOUR AND THE WOMAN … Dominic Roche contributed some minor revisions to the last act in the version at present being toured by W Cedric Bailey.”
A slightly later play, VAMPIRES FROM VENUS (qv), also used the Salou pseudonym, but appears to have been written by Roche rather than Kirk.
