The Dragon Variation
The same cast toured this play from September to November 1972. A second tour, from February to April 1973, replaced Alfred Lynch with Ray Barrett.
“A nasty moment for playwright Robert King, whose play THE DRAGON VARIATION is running at Windsor and features a seedy, disreputable and incompetent journalist called Douglas Blake. Three days before opening he discovered there was a real journalist called Douglas Blake. Not a bad sport, as it turns out, for the real Blake has promised not to sue. He has free seats for the show. And should he want to get his own back, he can. He is a theatre critic.” – Anthony Delano, ‘Inside Page’, Daily Mirror 14th February 1972 (page 13)
Blake went on to review the five-years-later West End production for The Stage (13th October 1977, page 17).
