The Stage, 19 Sept 1985: Cast exodus in ‘no cash’ row
The Cast of ”Pull the Other One“ gave producer Norman Robbins the same message when they walked out half-way through their performance last week. Disgruntled players left in the interval when they learned there would be no profits to share out after their 16-week run. Robbins, aged 47, who wrote, produced and starred in the play, was left with leading lady Myrtle Devenish to explain that the show would not go on. The audience of 130 at the Palace Avenue Theatre, in Paignton, Devon, were told the cast had walked out and were given their money back. Doel Luscombe, the joint lleading man, said the cast had demanded to see balance sheets but had not been lhanded them until the interval of the last performance on Thursday night. ”We know it was very unprofessional to walk out but we had no choice,“ he said. ”
