Prick Up Your Ears

The play starts by showing Orton and Halliwell as struggling co-writers whose claim to literary fame is their arrest in 1962 for stealing and defacing library books. Prison, however, alters the balance of power. Orton emerges stronger, tougher, and with a clinical detachment he pours into his solo writing; Halliwell is a broken man whose nerves are shot to pieces. As Orton’s star rises, Halliwell’s wanes.
