All-In Marriage

The play was originally produced on Broadway in 1928 under the title “Skidding” with Auranaia Rouverol listed as sole author.

The first UK performance was in Eastbourne in 1936 under the title “When Love Skids” and now Emile Littler was listed as co-author presumably to adapt it to an English audience, although the setting remained the USA. By the time it reached the Comedy Theatre in London the title was “All-In Marriage”

None of the titles seem very appropriate to what in fact became the first film in the extremely successful MGM film series about Andy Hardy and his family. The first film in 1937 was called “A Family Affair” and directly adapted from the play “Skidding”. Over the next twenty years there were a further 15 films in the Hardy Family saga. The final film “Andy Hardy Comes Home” appeared in 1958 and Mickey Rooney was Andy Hardy in all 16 films.
