Rolls Hyphen Royce

Martin Gibson leased the Shaftesbury Theatre from 1974–1978, having rebuilt the ceiling after its collapse at the end of a production of Hair. In discussion with William Douglas Home he agreed to produce Rolls Hyphen Royce, which was the story of how the two men came to meet and develop the Rolls Royce. The ‘hyphen’ who introduced these two was a man called Johnson. Martin Gibson persuaded Wilfred Hyde White to play the role of the hyphen. Lord Montague of Beaulieu provided valuable information on some of the historical detail. Prince Charles attended one of the preview nights.
