Observations
-
Mrs Martyn had visited her husband in Stamford, injured in a production the previous week. Chilled by the weather and depressed about her husband’s injury, she was persuaded to take some laudanum.
Initially this had the desired effect but unfortunately she had taken too large a dose and whilst performing as Eloia in ”The Mountain Sylph” she fell senseless on the stage during the performance.
A stomp he pump was applied however she was still too ill to perform at the Wednesday production.
