A Dog for Delmont
“The play is from the pen of Joseph Colton, an elementary school teacher in Durham County. Mr Colton, who is a member of Sunderland Drama Club, had his play first produced by this society. Later it was accorded a signal honour by the British Drama League, who included it in the programme of representative plays during their National Drama Week at Harrogate two years ago.” – ‘Chit Chat’, The Stage 8th February 1951
A revised version of this play, with the central family named Gay rather than Simpson, became a big hit the following year under the new title THE GAY DOG [qv]. The H M Tennent production retained Harold Goodwin and Douglas Ives from the original Q Theatre presentation.
