The Ratepayer’s Iolanthe
An extravagant concoction of parody of Gilbert and Sullivan, Mrs Thatcher and Ken Livingstone. Launched as a political self-defensive squib by the Greater London Council, to try to stop its closure. Mrs Thatcher is presented as a usurping and predatory Fairy Queen trying to get Red Ken off the GLC and into parliament to be useless among Labour back benchers.
