Abracadaver
UK debut of Frank Langella.
The advertised opening night at Windsor (15th March 1990) was delayed due to technical problems.
“Some illusions, involving a crossbow, a woman sawn in half and a gigantic cauldron blazing fire, are quite gruesome, which is why members of St John Ambulance stood by in the auditorium to revive the faint hearts among our number.” – Kay Shelley, Hayes & Harlington Gazette, 21st March 1990
“The multi-million pound thriller … was to open at the [Wyndham’s] theatre on April 18, following a transfer from Windsor’s Theatre Royal. Its Windsor debut was delayed by two days last month after hitches with its complex illusions, devised with the help of top magician Ali Bongo. Now producers Duncan Weldon and Jerome Minskoff reveal the magic has also been the curse of its London run, which has been indefinitely postponed while it is reworked.” – The Stage, 5th April 1990
