Y

This specific production does not yet have a description, but the play itself does:

This musical spectacular / cabaret started off as “I” and started previews on the 16th March 1983 and was scheduled to open on the 22nd March 1983. It was beset with problems and was withdrawn before its official opening. It underwent massive re-staging and emerged in June under the title “Y” and was much more successful.

Observations

  1. On 6th April 2022 at 10:57 p.m., Jenny noted:

This production featured a very brilliant quick change routine in Black and white called “The Wedding Dance” I think? where Arturo performed a tango dance quick change, between a bride and groom.
I was 18 yrs old had just moved to London and got a job as a singing dancing waitress. Apart from waiting tables, mainly serving cocktails and promoting drinks we had to on a cue….to run down the front and pull out a Handkerchief from our back pockets and sing “We are the boys of the Piccadilly and sing and dance. It was meant to be the surprise Oh La La element….. It was fun and had all sorts of actors and actresses involved. I remember a Suzannah York look alike and a guy who looked like an RAF pilot called Brad (I had never heard that name before, in 1983 it sounded cool) he ws very handsome. I was 18 and from Devon and we drank in the Devonshire Arms after rehearsals the show and the bar man said ”Oh Arghhh" to me (like a framer) because of my accent and I was mortified no one had listened to West Country voices then, apparently, we were all thick! So I immediately booked elocution lessons to change how I spoke.
I went on to work in Theatre and Television for many years in Devon and Hampshire and London. I feel blessed. I have had a wonderful time. I even visited Heaven (when it was open with our gay bar manager? (looked like James Dean)?
I also remember a French catering/cockatail manager very full on (well certainly in my face)…….read what you will….. Oh La La….
