The Hot Tiara
“THE HOT TIARA is set in that slightly improbable West End world where in every luxury flat there is a jewel-case left lying about, and there is always a debonair cracksman ready to tidy it away.” – ‘Curtain Up’ preview, 1st April 1963
New version of a play that toured, with Phyllis Calvert as Freda, in November 1962 [qv]. The West End presentation was withdrawn after 14 performances.
The Windsor run was originally scheduled for two weeks rather than three. The extension involved recasting the role of Mick, since Timothy Carlton was due to open in FISH OUT OF WATER at Birmingham on 6th May [qv].
“Set in the present day, the dialogue, plot and some of the acting are vintage 1921.” – Daily Mirror, 29th May 1963
