Positive

A new comedy by Shaun Kitchener will open at the Waterloo East Theatre in central London on 15 May 2014, following previews from 13 May, running until 1 June 2014.

Positive is produced by Alice Wright on behalf of West Avenue Productions, and returns to the venue for a three week run, following a performance at the venue for World AIDS Day in 2013 and a run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

The play has since been workshopped and developed and shines a spotlight onto life with the virus in modern day Britain, inspired by true accounts: Benji’s first year with HIV has not been easy. Scared of judgement and rejection, his social life is at an all-time low and his love life is non-existent. But enough is enough. The time has come to grab his anxiety by the balls and to start to live again.

The cast includes Timothy George (Benji), Nathalie Barclay, Paul Heelis, Jamie-Rose Monk, Shaun Kitchener and Sally George. It is directed by James Callas Ball.

Writer Shaun Kitchener recently graduated from the Royal Court Young Writers’ Programme. He calls the play a “love story” and hopes it challenges the inaccurate preconceptions around people living with HIV in a light-hearted but honest way.
