Fun on the Bristol

This short summer season of the piece was fitted in between two legs of Rich Waldon’s own tour; although it was produced under his name, the company was “under the management” of Thomas Lisbourne. Mr. Waldon’s absence allowed a couple of the cast to move up the pecking order in who they were playing.

Play description

An American “Eccentric, Musical Comedy-Oddity”, which grew out of the minstrel show. Much of the second half was taken up with the cast performing party pieces that changed with the cast or production. The piece enjoyed great success in “the provinces” but was deemed not sophisticated enough for London audiences. It was toured by several companies (sometimes three or four rival companies being on the road at the same time), and survived for on the road for nearly thirty years.
