The Dining Room

The play chronicles the decline of traditions of the great American WASP. In humorous and touching scenes, stuffy parents instil strict values, disaffected teenagers rebel, couples stage affairs under their children’s noses and more. Relationships disintegrate and new alliances are forged. Scandal threatens family honour! Seven young actors play multiple characters who come and go in the dining room of a fashionable eastern home. Even the dining room itself comes under attack from… the architect. The finale is bittersweet: a consummate hostess laments her many losses just as happy dinner guests stream onstage to a brilliantly set table.
