Bambi: A Life in the Woods

Here for the first time is a stage version of the original story of Bambi written by Austrian novelist Felix Saltern. The fawn Bambi can only become heir to his father, the Great Prince, once he has encountered and mastered feelings of fear, loneliness, love, loss and independence. Bambi comes to understand that all of earth’s creatures are guided by a force greater than themselves. This tale of growing up is a sensitive work of theatre appealing to children and adults alike. Presented with beautiful staging, fun puppetry, and many opportunities for audience participation.

Play description

“Bambi: A Life in the Woods” is a contemporary American play based on the 1923 novel by Austrian author Felix Salten. It is considered by many to be the first environmentalist novel.
In the 1940s, Disney studios released the classic animated film based on Salten’s novel. This play is not, however, the Disney version.
Playwright James DeVita has gone back to Salten’s original novel to retell the story for a modern audience.
