Horizontal Hold
Comedy about a sociologist, Naomi, who becomes an unexpected TV personality, to the discomfort of her publisher husband, James.
Originating at Windsor, this play changed director between its tour dates and West End opening, with the author himself taking over from Patrick Dromgoole.
A TV version was screened on 27th May 1968 and was the top-rated television play that month, being seen in 6,400,000 homes. (‘Top five plays in May’, The Stage 11th July 1968, page 9.) Sheila Hancock was cast as Naomi, Robert Stephens as James, Tony Britton as Charles and Amanda Barrie as Mavis.
