Rollo
Felicity Douglas’ translation of the Marcel Achard play PATATE, produced to celebrate the 21st anniversary of Oxford Playhouse. At Oxford and Brighton the play was presented with the longer title MY FRIEND ROLLO. The West End run, at the Strand and Duchess theatres, totalled 132 performances.
“At Oxford the play … was an immediate hit, with Leo McKern scoring a big personal triumph in the title role … ROLLO is a clever study of the feud existing – rather one-sidedly – between two men who have been acquaintances since their schooldays.” – Theatre World Annual (London) Number 11
Leo McKern also starred in a 1980 revival of the play at the Royal Exchange, Manchester [qv].
