Sign Here, Please (aka I Want to See Musov!)
British adaptation of a French adaptation of a Russian farce.
This production toured under the title I WANT TO SEE MUSOV! On reaching the Whitehall, its title had changed to SIGN HERE, PLEASE and Marty Feldman’s adaptation credit had disappeared. Several of the character names had also been altered. (The West End versions are given in square brackets.) Attempts to rewrite on the hoof, turning the play into more of a traditional Whitehall farce, didn’t prevent a rapid closure.
“It is a terrible mess, redeemed by nothing that I could discover.” – R B Marriott, The Stage 10th August 1967 (page 7)
