Ghosts
The ghosts of the title refer to aspects of the central character Mrs Alving’s past which come back to haunt her over the course of one day where dark secrets and unresolved tensions are brutally exposed. Following the death of her husband, Mrs Alving sets up an orphanage on her country estate and welcomes her son Oswald, a successful Paris-based artist, back home. But both protagonists find themselves bound through a series of complex relationships to their maid Regina, her carpenter father Engstrand and the Pastor Manders, who arrives to dedicate the orphanage.
