Ladies in Retirement
First production at the Fortune Theatre under new owners Paul Gane, Gerry Loadsman and Jack Prince, who renamed it – very briefly, as it turned out – the Fortune Thriller Theatre. ‘If you enjoy the best thriller suspense plays ever written,’ read the flyer, ‘this theatre is for you!’
Peter Cotes was listed as director of this revival on the same flyer but resigned shortly before opening night, insisting his name be removed from all further advertising. Savaged by critics, the show was taken off early.
