The Government Inspector

To celebrate his bicentenary, The Crescent presents Gogol’s masterpiece. Originally set in small town Russia of the 1830s, The Government Inspector is a classic satire on human vanity, corruption and self-interest.

A penniless clerk from Moscow is mistaken for a visiting government inspector and what follows is one of the great comedies of all time, and one that remains as pertinent today as it was when it was first performed.
