“Hackney Ancient Theatre Project
For the academic year 2007/8, The Iris Project has been working in conjunction with UCL and UCL Bloomsbury Theatre to bring together students of University College London and pupils from schools in Hackney to explore the background and performance of Ancient Greek Drama.
Children from schools across the borough of Hackney have experienced a series of taster workshops on drama and ancient theatre, and visited a London theatre and watch a production of an ancient Greek comedy, The Birds. As the culmination of this year long programme, sixty pupils performed two ancient Greek comedies, Aristophanes’ Frogs and Peace at the Bloomsbury Theatre on July 7th, 2008.”
